Rev. Donald Gaston Bailey's Obituary
Funeral service for Rev. Donald Gaston Bailey, 82, of Alexander City, will be Saturday, May 29, 2010 at 2:00 pm at Hillabee Baptist Church. Rev. Mike Bailey, Rev. Vince Lee, Rev. Wayne Cowhick and Dr. Skip Lowery will officiate. Entombment will follow in the Hillview Mausoleum. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 28, 2010 from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm at Radney Funeral Home. \r\n\r\nRev. Bailey passed away on Thursday, May 27, 2010 at Russell Medical Center. He was born on August 6, 1927 in Macon County, Alabama to Emmett Ellis Bailey and Molly Ware Gaston Bailey. He graduated from Howard College (now Samford University) and later received a Doctor of Divinity Degree. He was Director of Missions for the Tallapoosa Baptist Association for 38 years. He served as Pastor of Sixth Street Baptist Church, Oldfield Baptist Church, Hillabee Baptist Church and New Concord Baptist Church. He was Founding Pastor of Good News Baptist Church. Rev. Bailey loved to work in his garden and share his vegetables. He loved his grandkids and his dog, Bear. He enjoyed Alabama Football and was a big jokester. \r\n\r\nHe is survived by his wife of 63 years, Margaret Campbell Bailey of Alexander City; sons, James Michael Bailey (Nan) of Conyers, GA and Danny G. Bailey of Alexander City; grandchildren, Stewart Bailey, Kimmy Bailey, Shay Bailey, Misty Brown and Tina Dean; great-grandchildren, Dillon Dean, Clayton Foshee, Thomas Dean, Linley Brown and Ashland Bailey; daughter-in-law, Lin Bailey of Alexander City; sisters, Sara June Vernon and Peggy Ruth Woodruff, both of Alexander City, Billie Jo Browning of Owensboro, KY and Gloria Turner of Hackneyville.\r\n \r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Nell Brown; and brothers, Bobby Ware Bailey and Charles "Red" Bailey. \r\n\r\nThe family will accept flowers or contributions may be given to the Tallapoosa Christian Crisis Center, 4425 Dadeville Rd., Alexander City, AL 35010.
