Mr. Don Lane DuPriest, a man of selfless heart, generous spirit, and optimistic disposition, has taken his final bow on life's stage. Born on January 9, 1942, in Tallapoosa County, AL, he departed this world on August 11, 2023, at home, surrounded by his family.
Mr. DuPriest, a Green Beret, served his country during the Vietnam War with honor and distinction in the United States Army. Following his military service, he embarked on a career as an I.B.E.W. electrician, where he worked all over the country as well as internationally. A dedicated 59-year member of the Masonic Lodge and the Shriners, he was a beacon of fraternity and brotherhood, inspiring those around him.
Mr. DuPriest found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He would often venture forth on quests for arrowheads, smiling with the thrill of discovery. His love for antique cars was a testament to his appreciation for history and craftsmanship. His hands, skilled in labor, found solace in creation and repair. And in the quiet moments, he found peace by the pond, rod in hand, immersed in the tranquil art of fishing.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and strength. His beloved wife, Deborah DuPriest of Kellyton; his sons, James Leon DuPriest of Sylacauga and Scott Lane DuPriest of Alabaster; his daughters, Leigh Cleveland Zornes (John) of Pensacola, FL and Jennifer Lynne Phurrough of Opelika; his grandchildren, April Anna Ondo (Josh) and Cooper Phurrough; his brothers, Vann Lewis DuPriest (Connie) of Sylacauga and Joe Lamar DuPriest (Doris) of Winter Haven, FL; and a host of nieces and nephews, will forever hold him dear in their hearts.
Mr. DuPriest was a leading man, his character marked by his selflessness, generosity, and optimism. He is preceded in death by his father, Sydney Leon DuPriest, his mother, Ruth Hayes DuPriest, and his brother, Chris Lanier DuPriest. His spirit will continue to guide us, reminding us of life's simple joys.
