A Celebration of Life Service for DeWayne Thornburg, 64, of Alexander City, Alabama will be held on Sunday, May 19, 2024 at 4:00 pm at Promise Land Family Worship Center (2583 Jefferson St. Alexander City, Alabama 35010).
DeWayne Thornburg, a cherished figure renowned for his boundless love, wisdom, and spirited personality, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2024, in Alexander City, Alabama. Born on July 6, 1959, in Sylacauga, Alabama and graduated from B.B. Comer High School. DeWayne became a pillar of support and joy to all who knew him.
After moving to Alexander City, Alabama, DeWayne was a dedicated gate attendant at StillWaters in Dadeville, Alabama where he was both respected and adored by the community. His passion for life extended to his wife, children, grandchildren, and extended family; each cherished every moment spent in his presence.
DeWayne played a crucial role in the lives of his loving wife, Marcia Thornburg, and his beloved sons, Zachery DeWayne (Hannah) Thornburg and Ryan Chase (Samantha) Thornburg. He was a proud grandfather to Ryan Chase C.J. Thornburg, Jr., McKenzie Laine McManus, and Mason Andrew Crumpton, all of whom brought immense joy to his heart.
DeWayne is also remembered by his sister, Pat Sargent; his brother, Steve Thornburg; and a host of nieces and nephews including Penny McCue, Tammy Butera, Lindsey (Ben) Griffin, Herb West, Chris Thornburg, Weil Thornburg, Chip (Paula) Sargent, Mel Colley; along with many cousins who were all an integral part of his life.
His family tree is marked by the loss of his mother, Lena Ruth Thornburg; his father, J.M. Thornburg; his brother, Ricky Thornburg; and his sister, Kathryn West, all of whom he cherished deeply and preceded him in death.
DeWayne's life was rich with interests and hobbies that reflected his vibrant character. An accomplished musician and singer, he was often the life of the party. His talent for practical jokes is fondly remembered by those who were lucky enough to be on the receiving end. Above all, he was a man's man, who loved his Lord and Savior fervently and eagerly spread the Gospel. Hunting, fishing, and family gatherings were some of his most treasured activities.
As we commemorate DeWayne's well-lived life, we hold onto the legacy of a man who selflessly shared his heart with everyone around him. While his physical presence will be sorely missed, the memories he created and the love he spread will continue to resonate within the lives of all he touched.
