Funeral Service for Mr. Derek Jonathon McVey, 36, of Kellyton, will be Saturday, January 4, 2025 at 3:00 pm at the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home. Bro. Norman Strickling and Pastor Tony Harris will officiate. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 3, 2025 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Radney Funeral Home.
Mr. McVey passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2024. He was born on March 29, 1988 in Alexander City, to Tony Lee McVey and Tina Culberson McVey. A 2006 graduate of Horseshoe Bend High School, Derek's zest for life was as boundless as the open roads and creeks he loved to explore. Derek's passion for the outdoors was evident to all, as he pursued hunting and fishing with a fervor matched only by his unwavering support for the Alabama Crimson Tide. His love for adventure was paralleled by his robust work ethic, a trait he wore as a badge of honor, always extending a hand to those in need.
Above all, Derek's role as a loving father to his son was unparalleled; he infused every moment with devotion and care. He was the cherished brother, son, uncle, and friend whose vibrant spirit and genuine goodness will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
He is survived by his son, Derek Logan Lee McVey and Logan's mother, Lacie McVey; son, Ayden Harris; daughter, Maddie Rape; mother, Tina McVey of Kellyton; sisters, Deborah Lee (Lee) Seaton of Alexander City, Stormee Annette (Robert Palmer) McVey of Anchorage, AK, Haleigh Danielle (Cody) Padgett of Kellyton, Rachel Alexis McVey of Kellyton; brother, Thomas Matthew McVey of Kellyton; nieces, Emma Grace Seaton, Everleigh Rayne Padgett, Emberleigh Blake Padgett, and Brianna Seaton; grandfathers, Robert McVey and Morris Culberson; bonus brothers, Ray (Tiffany) Turner, Matthew (Ginger) Channell, and Steven (Lulu) Sims.
He was preceded in death by his father, Tony Lee McVey; grandmothers, Alice Culberson and Alma Ruth McVey; and aunt, Tracy Buck.
The family encourages everyone to wear their favorite Alabama Crimson Tide apparel to the funeral service.
