Graveside Service for Mr. David “Smiley” Glenn Saffold, 56, of Millbrook, Alabama, will be Saturday, September 16, 2023 at 11:00 am at Old Providence Baptist Church Cemetery. Bro. Benny Ogles will officiate. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 15, 2023 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Radney Funeral Home.
David "Smiley" Glenn Saffold, a beloved brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully after a life marked by service, laughter, and generosity. Known for his infectious humor, friendliness, and selfless giving, David left an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
David was born into the loving family of Melvin Louis Saffold and Wana Carol Saffold, both of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by his siblings Robert L. Saffold (Robin) of Auburn, AL, Cindy Saffold of Tallassee, AL, Laura Saffold, and Daniel Saffold. David also leaves behind his nephews Chris Pope, Jared Pope, Mason Saffold, his niece Paige Saffold, and his great-niece Maci Pope.
A proud graduate of Hackneyville High School, David went on to serve his country with distinction. He joined the United States Air Force, rising to the rank of Master Sergeant. His tours of duty included Operation Iraqi Freedom and Desert Storm, reflecting his unwavering commitment to national service. Before returning to Air Force Guard, David graduated from the Police Academy in Selma, Alabama and served as a Opelika Police Officer, proving that his dedication to his country and community knew no bounds.
David's interests were as varied as they were passionate. He was an active member of the American Legion 133 in Millbrook, where he found camaraderie and purpose. His love for the open road was evident in his enthusiasm for motorcycles. He was a proud member of the Iron Warriors and participated in numerous charity rides, combining his love for riding with his generous spirit. His adventurous side was also seen in his love for riding ATVs. David's love for speed and power was not limited to two wheels; he had a deep affection for his Dodge Challenger Scat Pack muscle car, a testament to his adventurous spirit.
David was affectionately known as "Smiley" for his constant good humor and friendly demeanor. His generosity was legendary; he always had a helping hand to offer, a kind word to share, and a smile to brighten someone's day. He embodied the words of Mother Teresa, "Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier."

He was a beacon of positivity, a pillar of his community, and a man who lived his life with unwavering dedication to service, friendship, and generosity. His life and legacy will continue to inspire all who knew him. His laughter, warmth, and kindness will be dearly missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
