Funeral services for David Ernest McGhee, 56, of Alexander City, Alabama, will be Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at the Church in the Pines. Rev. Rick Levell will officiate. Burial will follow in the Alexander City Cemet Read Obituary
Every time I passed the mattress store in Kellyton, I would try to stop in and talk with David. Always had the best jokes and usually a little gossip too. He did so much to help us with great deals on many, many McGhee mattresses. He even rented his small apartment to my son for a period of time. He is one of the funniest, kindest, caring people I've ever met... Still doesn't seem real. I spoke to him a couple of days after he found out he had contracted this awful virus. He just planned to lay low and rest and recover. Like the whole city, I'm just heartbroken, I will cheer extra hard for Auburn, and maybe even go to a Jax State game in his honor. I can only hope that his family, friends, and the city can remember the good times and smile when you think about David. He was one of the good ones. Rest my friend. Rest.
We will truly miss David. I have known him most of my life. He always supported the local businesses. He was a fair and honest man. My wife and I enjoyed him as a friend and business associate. I saw him a few days ago at Cherokee Quick Stop getting gas. He was his normal friendly self. I hope and pray that the lord will guide us through this journey to defeat this terrible virus. It is very sad that we have lost so many good people. Our prayers and thoughts are with his family.
