Mr. David Jack Dean's Obituary
David Jack Dean, 82, of Alexander City, AL passed away peacefully on September 3, 2023, at Chapman's Nursing Home. He was born on March 17, 1941 in Tallapoosa County, Alabama to Hardy Clark Dean and Gladys Shurum Dean. He worked for over 30 years at Avondale Mills as a carpenter and plumber. In his early 40s, he discovered the game of golf and spent many afternoons enjoying a round with his lifetime friends.
Jack was a loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He taught his two daughters many things over the years, like how to install a hot water heater, mow the lawn, use a skill saw, and drive a hammer. But the most important thing he taught them is the love of family. Every day he called his daughters to update them on the weather and sports and ask how everyone was doing. If they couldn't answer, he would leave a humorous voicemail. He had a contagious laugh and loved to tell a joke. He never ended a call or ended a visit without telling family that he loved them. His grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he never missed an opportunity to tell anyone about them. They too shared a deep love for him. He was an avid fisherman and loved his Alabama football. He was a long time member and Trustee at New Beginning Baptist Church.
Jack is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jean Stoffregen Dean;; daughters, Shelia Martin and husband, Jimmy, Jacqueline Colley and husband, Ricky; grandchildren, Marshall Coger, Skylar Simpson, and Jackson Colley; great-grandchildren, Remy Butler, Kelby Coger, and Garrett Simpson; brother-in-law, Eric Stoffregen and wife, Matha Kay; brother-in-law, Wayne Stoffregen, and sister-in-law, Linda Stoffregen; along with numerous nephews and nieces he adored.
Jack was proceeded in death by his parents; sister, Clarece Sasser; and brothers, Daniel Dean and Gene Dean.
A private memorial service will be held for immediate family members.
