Ms. Cynthia Susan Sykes Harris' Obituary
A visitation for Cynthia Susan Sykes Harris, 87 of Chelsea, Alabama will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, from 10:00 am until 11:30 am at Radney Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at Alexander City Cemetery beginning at 12:00 pm. Michael Abrams will officiate.
Cynthia passed away on Thursday, July 17, 2025. She was born on January 31, 1938, in Montgomery, Alabama to Theodore West Sykes and Minnie Lee Barnett Sykes. She studied Home Economics and graduated from the University of Montevallo in May of 1960. She was married to Calvin Harris on August 7, 1960 (54 years).
She is survived by her brother William (Billy) Madison Sykes, her daughter, Cynthianne Harris Morgan; sons, David Mark Harris (Rhonda), and Rodney Alan Harris (Cecilia). She had four grandchildren, Cynthia Joanne Morgan, Kelly Marie Harris Owens (Matt), David Madison (Matt) Harris (Catherine), and Codie Elizabeth Harris. She had two step grandchildren, Mackenzie Brooke Caro (Andrew) and Scott Gilliland (Rachel). She had two great grandchildren, Abigail Faye Owens and Joshua Neil Owens. She is also survived by nieces including Laura Lane (Mike), Teresa Reyes (German), Debra Morgan (Alan), and dear friends the Jones Family, Randy Fowler, Scott Estes, and the McSweeney family.
Cynthia was a schoolteacher at Alexander City Junior High for 25 years, employee of State Farm for 10 years, and a library assistant at Central Alabama Community College for 5 years. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Alexander City, an avid Disney fan, and a skilled craftswoman. She loved to read and cook. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her spirit lives on forever in our hearts.
