Cathy Shockley Morgan, a beacon of love and faith, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2023, at the age of 66, in her hometown of Alexander City, Alabama. Born on September 9, 1957, to Doy F. and Sara Shockley, Cathy grew to be a woman whose life was defined by her devotion to her family, her work, and her faith.
Cathy's journey through life was marked by her loving marriage to her husband, Charles Ricky Morgan I. Together, they raised a family that included their sons, Charles Ricky Morgan II (Brandi), Joshua Morgan (Emily), and Greg Pike. She was a cherished Grammy to her grandchildren, Morgan Pike Jeffcoat (Tanner), Gracie Morgan, Tori Pike, Bryan Morgan, Charlie Morgan, Sarah Catherine Morgan, Justin Saxon (Rebekah), and Hannah Green (Russell). The joy of her later years was further multiplied by her great-grandchildren, Amelia Saxon and Weslee Green. Cathy is also survived by her special mother, Gladys Shockley, sisters-in-law, Candice Shockley and Mary Shockley; step-brother, Bo Bishop (Becky); step-sister, Chrys Foreman (Ted); special nieces, Lisa Bowen and Sammie Grigsby and a host of other nieces and nephews; and her dear friend, Dale Caldwell, who also held significant place in her heart.
Cathy was preceded in death by her father, Doy F. Shockley, her mother, Sara Dabbs Shockley, and her brothers, Fred Shockley and Richard Lee "Rickey" Shockley. Despite these losses, she continued to embody the love and resilience that her family cherished.
A proud graduate of Benjamin Russell High School, Cathy dedicated 40 years to Russell Corporation, where she excelled in Material Management. Her professional achievements, however, were always secondary to her unwavering commitment to her family. Cathy's world revolved around her loved ones, and she found great joy in planning and hosting family gatherings that were full of warmth and laughter.
Cathy's faith was the cornerstone of her life. A devout Christian and a faithful member of New Elkahatchee Baptist Church, she lived her beliefs through acts of kindness and service. She was a tireless supporter of Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child, spreading hope and generosity far beyond her own community.
Her nurturing spirit was evident in her role as a loving mother, mother-in-law, and Grammy. Cathy was renowned for her exceptional culinary skills, often delighting family and friends with her delicious cooking and baking. Her home was a place where everyone felt welcome and cherished.
Cathy's love extended to all of God's creation. She was a Master Gardener who took pleasure in tending to her plants and flowers, and her passion for nature was reflected in her care for animals and pets. Her enjoyment of farming and canning was a testament to her appreciation for the earth's bounty.
An avid reader, Cathy found solace and adventure within the pages of books. She relished the magic of Christmas, not only for its spiritual significance but also for the joyous films she would watch year after year. Her enthusiasm for the University of Alabama's sports teams was well-known, and she could often be found cheering for the Crimson Tide.
Cathy will be remembered as a loving and faith-filled woman, whose generosity knew no bounds. Her legacy is one of kindness, a life lived with purpose and grace. Her spirit will continue to guide and inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Cathy Shockley Morgan's life was a testament to the power of love, faith, and family. As we bid farewell to this extraordinary woman, we take comfort in knowing that her light will forever shine in the hearts of those she touched.
The family would like to give a special "Thank You" to Enhabit Hospice and the staff at Russell Medical for the wonderful love, care and support that was extended to Mrs. Cathy and the family.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be given to New Elkahatchee Baptist Church, Operation Christmas Child Fund, 3380 Elkahatchee Road, Alexander City, AL 35010.
