Mrs. Carolyn Hamby Patterson's Obituary
Carolyn Hamby Patterson, age 91, of Alexander City, Alabama, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2026, at Brown Nursing Home, surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral services for Ms. Patterson will be held graveside at Dadeville City Cemetery on Friday, March 20, 2026 at 2:00 pm.
Ms. Patterson was born on April 12, 1934, in Autauga County, Alabama. She grew up in Dadeville, Alabama, and was the eldest of her nine beloved siblings. In her youth, she was a member of the Glee Club and a gospel music group. She graduated from Dadeville High School, Class of 1952, before pursuing a career with Russell Corporation, where she retired after 46 years of service.
Carolyn was devout in her Christian faith. She was known to pray for others before herself and spent many hours studying scripture. Her life was devoted to her faith, her family, and her community. Those who knew her often remarked on her kindness, quiet strength, and welcoming spirit. She enjoyed singing, reading, traveling, gardening, preparing meals for family gatherings, baking, and cross-stitching. She blessed many friends and family members with her cakes and cross-stitch creations.
She was a faithful member of Marshall Street Church and cherished the friendships she built throughout her many years in the Alexander City and Dadeville communities.
She is survived by her daughter, Denita Patterson Oliver; her granddaughter, Rebecca Hayden Oliver; her siblings, June Hamby Wright (Terry), Shirley Hamby Blackwelder, Larry Hamby (Kay), Neal Hamby (Verna), and Terry Hamby (Linda); as well as numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and cousins who will forever cherish her memory.
Ms. Patterson was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Lucius Hamby and Lorene Pyron Hamby, and her siblings, Bobbie Hamby Lashley, Jimmy Hamby, James “Bud” Hamby, and Edward “Ed” Hamby.
The family expresses their heartfelt appreciation to the caregivers and friends who offered love and support during Ms. Patterson’s final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund or Connect Church of Alexander City (formerly Marshall Street Church).
