Carolyn Hodo, a pillar of strength, faith, and love, was called to her heavenly home on August 31, 2023. Born on July 7, 1950, in Alexander City, to Mr. Louis Nail and Mrs. Ruth Rogers Nail, Carolyn's life was a testament to her unwavering commitment and dedication to the many roles she played. She was a loving wife to her husband, William, for 41 remarkable years, an amazing mother to her children, David and Betsy, and a loving "GiGi" to her grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Henry. She was a protective force within her family, always ready to extend her care and support. Carolyn always made sure that everyone around her was taken care of. That selfless nature extended to her family as well as her friends and community.
Professionally, Carolyn worked as an accountant at Russell Lands for 30 years, where her diligence and commitment were highly valued. She was not just an employee but an integral part of the Russell Lands family, demonstrating the same dedication she showed at home.
Carolyn's faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was a woman of deep spiritual conviction, always reading her Bible before bed, and actively serving her church, Cornerstone First Global Methodist Church. One of her most cherished roles was her involvement in the "Feast of Sharing" group, which provided meals to the community that held a special place in her heart. Known as the "Dessert Queen" by her daughter, Carolyn's culinary prowess was legendary. Her cheese straws, tea cakes, and personalized pies for each family member were not just desserts, but expressions of her love and care, making every family gathering a sweet celebration. They were always baked to perfection and highly anticipated by family and friends.
No matter the role that she held, Carolyn committed to it completely and wholeheartedly. She was a true light in the lives of those she knew. Being on the lake always brought joy to Carolyn. It was a gentle reminder of God's beauty, and it was a mental picture that she would remember even in her final moments. Carolyn's life was not just a journey, but a beautiful masterpiece painted with the vibrant colors of love, faith, and selflessness just like the sunsets that fell across the waters she admired.
Carolyn is survived by her husband, William Edward Hodo; son, David William Hodo (Andee); daughter, Betsy Ray (Brian); grandchildren, Kaitlyn Ray, Henry Hodo; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Ruth Nail; and brother, Tommy Nail.
