Graveside Service for Mr. Billy Wayne Cannon, 76, of Alexander City, will be Sunday, August 25, 2024 at 2:00 pm at the Hillview Memorial Park. Pastor Willie Pace will officiate. The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 25, 2024 from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm at Radney Funeral Home.
Billy Wayne Cannon, known affectionately as Billy Wayne to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2024, in Alexander City, Alabama. Born on July 12, 1948, in Alexander City, Billy Wayne's life was a testament to the enduring bonds of family, the joy of simple pleasures, and the deep roots that can anchor a life well-lived.
Billy Wayne was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He is survived by a loving family that includes his daughters, Theresa Nicholson, Jakiethia (Raymond) Pitts, Bonnie Sharpe, and Connie (Jamie) Campbell; sons, Mike Montgomery, Terry Montgomery, and Greg (Jen) Montgomery; grandchildren, Stephen Nicholson, Raymond (Kelly) Pitts, Jr., Beth (Robbie) Poplin, Brandon (Carrie) Montgomery, Myles Montgomery, Makayla (Caleb) Alexander, Branson Montgomery, Monty (Amie) Cox, Ashley Montgomery, Damien Montgomery, Brandy (Woody) Wood, Amber (Ronnie) Yadao, Jamie Lee Campbell, and Jody (Jason) Campbell; twenty-five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; his sister, Rita (Willie) Pace; niece, Christal (Scott) Jarrett; nephew, Matthew Pace; great-niece, Gabrielle (Hampton) Tucker; and great-nephews, Nate and Abby Jarrett. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mamon and Lillie Mae Cannon; and his beloved wife of 47 years, Dorothy Jean Smith Cannon.
Billy Wayne's work ethic was as strong as his love for his family. He dedicated over 40 years to Russell Corporation, where he honed his skills in screen printing. His colleagues knew him as a man who took pride in his work and who could always be counted on for his support and generosity.
Outside of work, Billy Wayne's passions were many and varied. He treasured the moments spent with his grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in his heart. His front porch was a sanctuary for the hummingbirds he loved to feed and watch, a hobby that brought him immense joy and tranquility. In his younger years, he found solace in the quiet of the woods, where he enjoyed deer hunting. Billy Wayne also had a loving heart for his cats, caring for them with the same tenderness he showed to all living things.
An avid fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide, Billy Wayne's enthusiasm for his team was infectious. He wore his team's colors with pride and cheered them on with a passion that rivaled the players on the field.
