Mrs. Betty Jean Sides' Obituary
Funeral service for Mrs. Betty Jean Sides, 72, of Equality, will be Sunday, August 22, 2010 at 3:00 pm at the Kendrick Baptist Church. She will lie instate for one hour at the Church prior to the service. Rev. Jimmy Nelson and Rev. Billy Warren will officiate. Burial will follow in the Equality UMC Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the residence after 3:00 pm. on Friday. \r\n\r\nMrs. Sides passed away on Thursday, August 19, 2010 at her residence. She was born on March 6, 1938 in Coosa County, Alabama to Luther Jackson Shurum and Mildred Louise Bray Shurum. She worked as a seamstress at #9 Mill of Russell Corp. She loved to bake and decorate cakes. Mrs. Sides loved to sew and made her own wedding dress. She loved to swing with her family and sing gospel music. She attended Candler Mountain Baptist Church.\r\n\r\nShe is survived by her husband, Ray Sides of Equality; sons, Billy Len Alexander (Shirley) of Equality and Wayne Alexander (Tammy) of Eclectic; seven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; sisters, Linda Fogarty of Tallassee, Janice Cannon of Equality, Grace Wadsworth (Buddy) of Wetumpka, Karen Wright (Lynn) of Titus; brother, Mark Shurum (Teresa) of Equality; sister-in-law, Clara Shurum of Equality; and special nephew, Phil Wright.\r\n\r\nShe was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Carolyn Ann Alexander; sisters, Wanda Shurum and Kaffie Shurum; and brothers, Richard Shurum and James Shurum.\r\n\r\nThe family would like to extend thanks to Angie and the staff of Amedisys Hospice.
