Betty Sims Brooks passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2024 at Lineville Health and Rehab. She was born on September 7, 1932 in Clay County, Alabama, to Homer Lee Sims and Pearl Clark Sims. Betty was a charter member of Alexander City Independent Methodist Church where she served as the secretary for Rev. Cowhick, taught Sunday School, and was actively involved with the Ladies Circle group. She planned all of the church functions and trips with her organizational and creative personality. Betty was also a Pink Lady at Russell Hospital.
Before retirement, Betty worked as a seamstress for Russell Corporation for over 20 years. She also ran a business where she became the town's top pick when they needed items monogrammed. In her spare time, Betty was known for her ability to create works of art whether that was through her paintings, quilting, sewing, or any other crafts she could find. There was no denying that Betty was a mighty and independent woman who always got the job done. She had a gentle and selfless love that could be seen clearly through her many acts of service to others. Even while staying at the nursing home that she dearly loved, Betty became a mentor and counselor to anyone who needed a compassionate friend. In her company, you knew that you were truly being heard as she'd walk you through your troubles.
Betty is survived by her daughters, Pat B. (Rickie) Cotney, Becky Sanders; grandchildren, Donna (Troy) Medforth, Karen Brooks, Amber (Greg) Ward, Raven Denson, Jennifer (Chris) Blankenship; many great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren, and siblings.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl C. Brooks; son, Douglas Brooks; grandson, Wayne Brooks; and parents, Homer and Pearl Sims.
