Betty Joyce Arsenault, known affectionately as Joyce by her loved ones, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2024, at the age of 85. Born on August 6, 1939, in Alexander City, Alabama, Joyce lived a life characterized by warmth, dedication, and the love she had for her family and community. She took her last breaths surrounded by the love of her family in Daviston, Alabama.
Joyce was a woman of many talents and a well-respected seamstress at Russell Corporation, where her impeccable work and attention to detail were greatly valued. Her career was marked not only by her skill but also by the lasting friendships she forged with her colleagues.
Those who knew Joyce will remember her for her vivacious spirit and her love for the simple joys of life. She found happiness in being outdoors, whether it was cutting grass, tending to her flowers, or simply basking in the beauty of nature. Joyce's green thumb was admired by all who had the pleasure of seeing her garden in full bloom.
A remarkable cook, Joyce could effortlessly whip up delicious meals that brought her family together around the table. Her chicken stew was legendary and will be fondly remembered as a symbol of her culinary prowess and her desire to nurture those she loved.
An avid reader, Joyce also found solace and adventure within the pages of books. Her love for literature was matched by her enthusiasm for bird watching, a hobby that allowed her to appreciate the wonders of the natural world.
Above all, Joyce cherished her family deeply. She was a source of strength, love, and guidance for her daughters, Teresa (Robert Earl) Cotney of New Site, Donna Jo (Wayne) Allen of Daviston, Leisa (Creig Woodburn) Brown of Saint Inigoes, MD, and Wendy Smith of Daviston. Her grandchildren, Heath (Bronwyn) Cotney, Andy Cotney, Tommy (Monica) Allen, Todd Brown, Brian Brown, and Monica (Tim) Thomas, brought immense joy to her life, as did her eleven great-grandchildren who lit up her world.
Joyce was a beloved sister-in-law to Gail Lewis and Patricia Lewis, who will miss her dearly. She was a pillar in the lives of those who knew her, and her legacy will continue to live on through the love and memories she leaves behind.
Joyce was preceded in death by her father, Reuben Lewis, her mother, Gladys Lewis, her devoted husband, Ronald L. Arsenault, her son, Robert Thomas Smith, and her brothers, James, Charles, and Sydney Lewis. Her memory will be a beacon for all who were fortunate enough to have been touched by her kindness and her unwavering spirit.
