Bettie Sallas' Obituary
Graveside Service for Miss Bettie Lou Sallas, 86, of Goodwater, will be Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at 11:00 am at the Kellyton Memory Garden. Rev. Matthew Reams will officiate. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 from 9:30 am to 10:30 am at Radney Funeral Home.
Bettie Lou Sallas was born on August 26, 1937 to William and Gladys Sallas and died on December 29,2023. She lived on the family farm in Goodwater for over 75 years where she lovingly maintained a vast and beautiful country garden, filled with flowering shrubs and perennials plants. Bettie shared her flowers for church arrangements and rooted cuttings for friends. After graduating from Goodwater High School in 1956, Bettie worked at Russell Mills for over 40 years and after retiring, Bettie devoted 16 years to caring for her mother at the homeplace. Being an avid Alabama fan, Bettie showed her support by wearing Alabama football T-shirts and anything red. Bettie was a devout Christian and read her Bible, Sunday School lesson and devotional each day until her eyesight failed, but she continued to have her Bible near to lovingly turn the familiar pages.
Many cousins and neighbors checked on Bettie over the past ten years and their kindness allowed her to remain at her beloved home until she became a resident at Chapman Nursing Home in Alexander City in 2021. Thank you to Terry and Diane Lashley, Linda Fuller, Carol Garner, Tommy and Sue Sallas, Rudy Edwards and Libby Rogers for their loving attention and friendship and to the staff of Chapman Nursing Home for their care. Bettie is survived by niece, Nancy Sallas Zeigler of Birmingham and nephew, Bill Sallas of Glen Ellyn, IL.
Memorial donations can be made to charities Bettie loved and supported; Kellyton Baptist Church or the Alabama Baptist Children's Home to support foster care.
From Isaiah 35, The desert shall rejoice and blossom like crocus; it shall blossom abundantly and rejoice with joy and singing. They shall see the glory of the Lord, the majesty of our God. Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf unstopped, then shall the lame man leap like a deer and the tongue of the mute sing for joy. For waters break froth in the wilderness and streams in the desert. Everlasting joy shall be upon their heads, they shall obtain gladness and joy, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.
