Bethany was the epitome of kindness, compassion, and love for her fellow man. She never met a stranger. Every person who knocked on her door was greeted with a warm welcoming smile and open arms. She was an original.
Preceded in death by her parents, Inez and Tom Weston, sister Linda Whitt, childhood caregiver Tillie Mae Whetstone and several beloved dogs.
Educated at the University of Alabama, Bethany worked in the Birmingham School System for 36 years. Her dedication to the public continued as an executive for the Birmingham Better Business Bureau. She was inducted into the Senior Citizens Hall of Fame.
She is survived by her husband Dwight Giles and numerous close friends.
Bethany had a lifelong passion for collecting beautiful art, antiques, and fine china. (Ruby Tonquin was her favorite.) She surrounded herself with fresh flowers and beloved friends. Those of us who were privileged to know her were blessed beyond measure by her friendship.
Her love for Alexander City and Lake Martin, her "peaceful place", was lifelong. Memorials may be made to Children's Harbor of Lake Martin, 434 Children's Harbor Drive, Eclectic, Alabama 36024 or www.childrensharbor.com or to the Greater Birmingham Humane Society, 300 Snow Drive, Birmingham, Alabama 35209 or www.gbhs.org.
Bethany's effervescent spirit and personality will live in all our hearts.
