Ben Barrett, a kindhearted, funny, and intelligent young man, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2026, at his residence.
Ben was born on July 9, 2003, in Sylacauga, Alabama, to Corey V. Barrett and Tanya Lyn Tate. He was raised with love and care by his family and carried those values with him throughout his life. Ben was a Christian and was a member of Old Providence Baptist Church, where his faith was an important part of his life.
Ben graduated from Horseshoe Bend High School with the Class of 2022. He was proud of his accomplishments and approached life with a thoughtful spirit and a genuine interest in the world around him. He had a sharp mind and a warm personality that made him easy to love and impossible to forget. Those who knew Ben will remember his sense of humor, his loving nature, and the intelligence he brought to every conversation.
Ben enjoyed cooking and took pleasure in sharing that interest with others. He loved his cats and found comfort in their companionship. He also enjoyed playing video games and was an avid reader of science fiction books, where his imagination and curiosity could take him to distant places and extraordinary worlds. Ben had a caring heart and was known for the way he looked out for others. He cared deeply about the people in his life and had a way of making others feel seen, valued, and appreciated.
He is survived by his mother, Tanya Lyn (Brandon) Tate; his father, Corey V. Barrett; his sister, Milly Ingram; his grandparents, Lynn and Vickie Alford, and Jim and Lisa Tate; his grandmothers, Alette M. McCoy and Brenda Barrett; his uncle, Andy Alford; his great-aunt, Donna Border; his great-grandmother, Margaret McCoy; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Ben was blessed with a family who loved him dearly, and he returned that love in his own gentle and meaningful way.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Timothy Wayne Barrett; his great-grandmothers, Betty Harrell and Velma Alford; and his great-great-grandmother, Opal Bramlett. Their memories remain a part of the family’s story and are held close in the hearts of those who loved them.
Ben’s life, though far too brief, was filled with love, laughter, and quiet moments that reflected the goodness of his character. He will be remembered for his funny spirit, his loving heart, and the intelligence that shone through in everything he did. His presence brought joy to those around him, and his memory will continue to live on in the lives he touched.
Those who knew Ben will forever cherish the time they shared with him and the many ways he made life brighter. His family and friends will remember his kindness, his compassion, and the special place he held in their hearts. Though he is gone from this life, the love he gave and the memories he created will remain a lasting comfort to all who knew him.
