Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose life was marked by kindness, generosity, and love. She is survived by her husband, Rickie Dane Romine; her daughters, Catherine Romine Murphy and her husband Brad, and Callie Romine Binzer and her husband Brian; her grandchildren, William Joseph Binzer, Ava Claire Murphy, Logan Thomas Binzer, Russell Carl Murphy, and Amelia Cate Binzer; her sister, Brenda Richie Martin and her husband Larry; her brother, Henry Carroll Richie Jr.; her brother-in-law, Randy Martin; and many other beloved in-laws, cousins, and friends who were blessed by her presence and affection.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Bonnie Richie Martin, Carolyn Mason, and Betty Lippett; and her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Velma Orr Romine and Raymond R. Romine. Their memories remained close to her heart throughout her life, and she carried forward the love of family that had been entrusted to her.
Barbara was a proud graduate of Auburn University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education, and Auburn University at Montgomery, where she obtained a Master’s Degree in education. Education was not only a personal achievement for Barbara, but also a calling that guided her professional life and her service to others.
Barbara devoted her career to teaching and touched countless lives through her work in education. She was honored as Teacher of the Year for Cullman City Schools and later recognized as the retired Cullman County Teacher of the Year. She was also known as the Cullman County retired spelling bee champion, a title that reflected both her love of learning and her spirited personality. Throughout her teaching career, she received numerous other awards and recognitions, each one a testament to her dedication, patience, and genuine care for her students.
Barbara was a Christian whose faith was an important part of her life. She found strength, comfort, and joy in her relationship with the Lord, and she lived out her beliefs through compassion, humility, and service. She read five different translations of the Bible and treasured the wisdom and encouragement she found in Scripture.
Those who knew Barbara will remember her as loving, generous, and kind. She was a proud wife for more than 53 years and a devoted mother and grandmother who delighted in spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was their biggest cheerleader, always ready with encouragement, support, and unconditional love. Her family was the center of her world, and she made every gathering brighter with her warmth, laughter, and steady presence.
Barbara also enjoyed many simple pleasures that brought her happiness throughout her life. She was an avid reader who loved a good book, and she enjoyed crossword puzzles that challenged her mind. She found joy in gardening and sewing, and she especially loved traveling with her husband. Her life was rich with the everyday moments she cherished and the people she held dear.
