Mrs. Middlebrooks passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at her residence. She was born August 9, 1934, in Paramus, New Jersey to Peter J. Zabriskie and Claire W. Zabriskie. She was a devoted pastor’s wife for 62 years and loving mother to two daughters. She graduated from high school at age 16, was a graduate of Stetson University in Florida, and worked as a bank teller during those years. She was a member of Hillabee Baptist Church, where she taught a ladies’ Sunday School class. She enjoyed journaling for many years, always with the dream of writing a book someday. She loved to read, especially Max Lucado books, and enjoyed the teachings and writings of Dudley Hall. She was faithful in her card ministry to church members and other friends and family. Her passion was Bible study and teaching Sunday School to various age groups throughout her years of Christian service. She loved missions and taught various missions studies and led missions organizations in the church. She also had a passion for Discipleship Training in the local church and even served as an area representative in Alabama for Discipleship Training. She worked as teacher’s aide in Adult Education at CACC in GED classes and also volunteered as a literacy tutor. She had several interests including watching tennis and figure skating, collecting items related to trains, camels, butterflies, and reading mail. She generously gave to Christian charities throughout the years. She enjoyed doing Seek and Find puzzles, baking cookies, and watching the dog Max from The Grinch story. She cherished her memories of travels overseas to the Holy Land, Thailand, and Hong Kong. Most of all, she loved the Lord, her family, and church family and served them in many ways during her life. She loved Jesus and wanted everyone to know Him as their personal Savior and Lord.
She is survived by her two daughters Mary Jane Middlebrooks, Melanie Elizabeth Veazey (Tommy) both of Alexander City, niece Brenda Slaven of Merritt Island, Florida; nephews Don Zabriskie, Jr. (Beth) of Plantation, Florida, Douglas Zabriskie of Birmingham, Alabama, and John Cannaday, Jr. (Louanne) of Huntsville, Alabama; as well as great nephews and nieces Zachary Zabriskie, Sarah Zabriskie, Natalie Zabriskie, Joey Zabriskie, Randy Slaven (Sarah), Aubrey Moulder, Daniel Cannaday, Patt Cannaday, Kara Drake Cannaday, and Eli Cannaday.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William Bryan Middlebrooks, Jr., her brother Donald Zabriskie, Sr., great niece Alissa Slaven Moulder, and nephew Daniel Bryan Cannaday.
The family wants to thank Southern Care New Beacon Hospice for their services and care, especially nurses Haley and Catherine as well as a special caregiver Brianna.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Hillabee Baptist Church for missions or to a charity of your choice as she loved to support Christian charities with her small income to make a difference in this world.
Radney Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Anna Middlebrooks.
