Andy Avery McAlister's Obituary
Funeral Service for Mr. Andy Avery McAlister, 87, of Alexander City, Alabama, will be Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at 2:00 pm at the Stone Ridge Baptist Church. Dr. Brett Self and Rev. Will Baker will officiate. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 from 12:30 to 1:30 pm at Stone Ridge Baptist Church.
Avery passed away on Monday, March 11, 2024 at Russell Medical. He was born on August 29, 1936 in Tallapoosa County to Curtis McAlister and Claudia Robertson McAlister.
He is survived by wife of sixty-five years Sybil Pearce McAlister, siblings Frank McAlister (Geneva) and Shirley Pearce (Lewey), sons David McAlister (Vivian) and Andy McAlister, daughters Jenny Dillon (Dan) and Jerri Hall, grandchildren Marc McAlister and Alex McAlister (Melissa), Lauren Passen (Greg), Leah Prophater (Chris), Bailey McAlister, Britton McAlister, Connor McAlister (Taylor), Pearson Hall, Allison Hall, Andy Hall, and Avery Hall, and great-grandchildren Sybie Passen, Lewis Prophater, Tanner Prophater, Harlyn Prophater, Peyton Cooper and expected baby boy McAlister.
He is preceded in death by his father, Curtis McAlister, his mother, Claudia Robertson McAlister, and siblings, Ralph McAlister, Geneva Strickland, Sara Spraggins, Reynolds McAlister, Alvin McAlister, Lou Wilson, Joyce Branch, Elmer McAlister, Julia Thomas, and Robert McAlister.
Avery lived a full life, devoted to his family, working tirelessly to provide for them. After high school, he turned down a college scholarship to care for his mother and joined the National Guard. A natural mechanic, he managed a local bowling alley and became a skilled bowler. He moved on to a career with Russell Athletic for nearly 40 years, ending as the Quality Control Manager in the lab. Avery was lucky enough to spend his retired years traveling with his wife all across America. He loved and supported his grandchildren openly and unconditionally, traveling millions of miles around the Southeast for sporting events, dance recitals, band concerts, graduations and other important life events.
