Graveside Service for Mrs. Verbie S. Blankenship, 86, of Alexander City, will be Saturday, December 26, 2020 at 1:00 pm at the Mt. Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery. Dr. Bruce McClendon and Rev. Danny Bynum will officiate. Mrs. Blankenship passed away on Monday, December 21, 2020 at her home. She was born on June 16, 1934 in Daviston, Alabama to John Henry Sallas and Maudie Mae Thomas. She was an active member of Weogufka Second Baptist Church. She loved the Lord, and was a good Christian woman. She loved to sing old church hymns and read her Bible. She loved gardening, canning, freezing, deer hunting, and fishing. She enjoyed sitting on the front porch in her swing drinking coffee, looking at her diamonds dancing across Lake Martin. She loved her family dearly and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her daughters, Eva B. Haggerty, and Geneva Hagelstein (Paul); granddaughter, Dr. Samantha Roberge (Dr. Taylor Roberge); grandson, Clay Sims; great-grandchild, Margot Lorraine Roberge; and brother, David Sallas. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, John Allen Blankenship, Sr.; Son, John Allen Blankenship, Jr.; daughter, Sue Ann Blankenship; parents; sisters, Macie Mae Hand, Addie Sallas, Maybelle Murphy, Emma Jones, Louella Baker, Mary Lowery, and Georgia B. Morris; and brothers, James Curtis Duke, Lee Sallas, Enoch Sallas, William Sallas, John Sallas, and Leonard Duke. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Weogufka Second Baptist Church, PO Box 179 Weogufka, AL 35183, or to Crossroads Community Church Cemetery, PO Box 279 Elmore, AL 36025.
