Mrs. Sarah Smith Rogers (Maw)

The funeral service for Sarah Smith Rogers, 91, will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, February 8, 2021, at the Union Church in Rockford, Alabama, with burial following in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:30 pm until 1:00pm. Her nephew, Pastor Wade McCrory will be officiating and her niece, Betty Lynne Kirk, will provide special music. She was born January 14, 1930, in Birmingham, Alabama. At age 15, her family moved to Pensacola, Florida, and she graduated from Pensacola High School in 1948. In 1950 she married Jimmy Rogers, Sr. She worked as a nurse at Baptist Hospital for many years. Sarah was also a certified National Scorekeeper for the United States Police Canine Association and traveled throughout the country to assist with K-9 trials. She was a member of Pine Forest United Methodist Church in Pensacola and Rockford United Methodist Church. Over the years she spent time at her husband’s childhood home in Coosa County Alabama and in 2016 she permanently moved to Rockford, Alabama. She passed away on Wednesday, February 3, 2021, at University of Alabama Birmingham Hospital due to complications from a fall she suffered at home. Mrs. Rogers is preceded in death by her parents, Robert Howell and Florence DeJarnette Smith; her husband of 48 years, Jimmy Frank Rogers, Sr.; her sister, Peggy Orgusaar and sister-in-law, Polly Rogers Thigpen. She is survived by her son, Jimmy (Chris) Rogers, Jr.; daughters, Janice Rogers Kilgore and Susan Rogers; her grandchildren, Nicholas (Jen) Rogers, Thomas (Holly) Kilgore, Jared Kilgore, Linda (Kevin) Cutting, Kim Cook, Shon (Jeremy) Small, and Donnie Cook; great grandchildren, Sarah Kilgore, Katie Kilgore, Heather (Byron) Bennett, Tylor Cook, Austin Murphy, Lexy Small, Tristyn Cook Holley (Braxton), Torri Cook, Dylan Madril; great great grandchildren, Grayson Bennett, Bella Bennett, and Macie Murphy; two special friends, Jeff and Carol Mullendore; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The family request that anyone in attendance please wear a mask or face covering and the service will be held in compliance with the mandated rules from Alabama Dept of Public Health.
