Curry, Mary Jane "Janie" O'Howell, was born on October 13, 1936, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. She died on September 29, 2020 in Alexander City, Alabama. She was predeceased by her parents, James Grills O'Howell and Iva Ada Smith O'Howell as well as her stepmother Edith Davis O'Howell. She has two surviving step-sisters, Gloria (Davis) Brunschon and Patricia Ann Davis, both of Illinois. She was predeceased by siblings James William "Ronnie" Sawyer, Ruth Ellen O'Howell, Rosealee O'Howell, Sharon Kathleen O'Howell, Margaret Kay O'Howell, and James Grills O'Howell, Jr. and step-brother Kermit Davis. She first married James L. Johnson (1955-1964) with whom she had two children; Johnny L. Curry (Mary) and Nada Kay (Curry) Gast (Neal) both of Hueytown, Alabama. With her second marriage to Orrie P. Curry, Jr., (1966-2000) she became stepmother to his sons, William P. Curry and Benjamin C. Curry who preceded her in death, and Michael E. Curry (Jackie), Joseph C. Curry both of Alexander City, Al, and John D. Curry. Predeceased by her first grandchild, Lauren Dena Gast, she is survived by grandchildren, Jay L. Curry of Hueytown, Austin N. Gast of Hueytown, Holly L. (Gast) Nelson (Chris) of Concord, and Taylor S. Gast (Mindy) of Concord and step-grandchildren, Tammy (Curry) Herring of Helena, William "Bill" Curry of North Carolina, Amanda (Curry) Fraley of Alliance, Megan Wyrick of Alexander City, Jonathan (Stacy) Nabors and Cory Nabors of Pelham. Predeceased by great-grandchild, Joshua Curry, she is survived by great-grandchildren, Aidan, Liston, and Arlen Nelson; Cooper and Caroline Gast, Tiffany and Savannah Herring and Andrew, Sierra & Dakota Curry. A devout Christian, she loved to sing gospel music. For many years she was a member of River Road Baptist Church near Alex City. She loved to play the piano and had since childhood "played by ear" only learning to read music past her sixtieth birthday when she also began to compose some music. She loved to read, especially science fiction, among her other hobbies were crochet, needlepoint, making quilts, afghans, sewing her own clothes, flower gardening, and making small arts and crafts items. Always fond of animals she had a variety of pets over the years. A private family burial will be held at a later date with interment at Concord Baptist Church Community Cemetery in Jefferson County, Alabama. In lieu of flowers donations should be given in her name to Adams Nursing Home in Alexander City, Alabama where the nursing staff graciously cared for her in recent years.
