    Mrs. Edna Juanita "Nita" Marable

    October 15, 1930 - February 19, 2022

Funeral Service for Mrs. Edna Juanita "Nita" Marable, 91, of Alexander City, Alabama, will be Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at 11:00 am at the First United Methodist Church - Trinity Campus. Reverend Mike Densmore, Reverend Tim Harris, and Bishop Thomas Gillum will officiate. Burial will follow in the Alexander City Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Radney Funeral Home. Edna Juanita Gillum “Nita” was born to Cullen Thornton Gillum and Flora Mae Leach Gillum on October 15, 1930 and died peacefully at home on February 19, 2022 at 91 years of age. Nita graduated as salutatorian from Bibb Graves High School in Millerville, Alabama and received her Cosmetology training in both Birmingham and Atlanta. She met the love of her life, Carey Alton Marable “Bubba” at a dance and they married on April 4, 1953. Shortly after, they welcomed a baby girl, Karen Anita Marable, to the family. Nita lovingly ran “Nita’s Beauty Shop” out of her home for 67 years, and for 45 of those years Karen worked by her side. She trained aspiring cosmetologists with many going on to open their own shops. She treated her patrons as friends and family, welcoming all with her easy-going personality. Nita adored her family, treated them with great concern, and opened her home to them. Laughter was such a part of Nita’s life, and with her kind and compassionate spirit, she was always ready to do for others. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Alexander City and was involved in the church for as long as she was able to attend. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Marable; her sister in law Jayne Marable Greene and husband Tom; many cherished friends; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bubba Marable; her mother, Flora Mae Leach Gillum; her father, Cullen Thornton Gillum; and siblings Louise Gillum, Thornton Shaddix Gillum, Lynna Mae Gillum Sprayberry, Willodeen Gillum Sims, Laura LaVerne Gillum Hudgins, Robert Neal Gillum, and Joyce Gillum Smith. Pallbearers will include Scotty Carr, Brad Gillum, Don Gillum, Howard Gillum, Al Hudgins, and Neal Hudgins. A special thank you to Dr. Rafai, Dr. Popov, Dr. Hinkle, Darlene Baird, Elaine Russell, and Jessie Smith for their excellent care. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be given to First United Methodist Church, 310 Green Street, Alexander City, Alabama 35010.,
