He was born on November 15, 1936 in Sikesville, Alabama in Clay County to Earlie Allen Knight and Elma Kirk Knight. He loved and enjoyed his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and they were the light of his eye. Mr. Knight worked 43 years at Russell Corporation including #1 Mill for 10 ½ years, Russell physical testing lab for 2 ½ years, and production control office at #6 Mill for 30 years; where he had many friends that he dearly loved. He was a member of Orr Street Baptist Church where he was ordained as a Deacon in 1968 and held that position for 53 years and taught Sunday School for 47 years. Mr. Knight loved God’s inspired word and people who could preach and teach it. He loved to see people accept Jesus as their personal savior. Mr. Knight also loved history and admired military men and women and law enforcement officers. He enjoyed gardening, yard work, old automobiles, good Gospel Music, and Clay County, Alabama. He is survived by his beloved wife Mapie Jean Wilkerson Knight who was his loving companion for 65 years; daughters, Wanda Knight Salley (Ron) of Gulfport, Mississippi, and Tina Knight Drozdz (Dennis) of Mason, Ohio, grandchildren, Whitney Cornett (Michael), Joshua Salley (Morgan), Dillon Drozdz, and Sophie Drozdz; great-grandchildren, Michael Cornett II, Ron Cornett, and Grier Salley; and brother, Nelson Knight (Pamela) of Louisville, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; and two wonderful people, Aunt Eunice and Uncle Woodrow Tidwell who were like his second parents. The family will accept flowers but would prefer you make contributions to your favorite charity or Orr Street Baptist Church.
