Phillip Huel Goodwin

Phillip "Goober" Goodwin, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away surrounded by his loving family. Born with a heart full of laughter and a mind ripe with wit, Phillip made the world a brighter place for everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. His life was a testament to the values of hard work, family, and the simple joys that make life worth living. Graduating from Hackneyville High School's class of 1981, Phillip's strong work ethic was evident early on. He dedicated many years to the pulpwood industry straight out of high school until 1999. Following this, he was employed at Tag Grinding where he continued to showcase his exceptional skill in operating heavy equipment until his well-deserved retirement in 2017. Phillip's adventurous spirit and intelligent approach to life were complemented by his innate ability to find humor in everyday situations. He was an avid fisherman, a pastime that not only spoke to his love for adventure but also provided cherished moments with family and friends. His love for fishing was only surpassed by the joy he found in spending time with his beloved family. Phillip is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Ann Goodwin of Goodwater, AL; his children, Phillip Houston Goodwin (Danielle), Maxine B. Baker (Charles), and Luke C. Bridges, III (Grace); and his adored grandchildren, Adeline and Jack Goodwin, Caitlin Yates, Kelsey, David and James Smith, Anna, Allison, and Luke Parker Bridges. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren, Brayden Levi Yates, Channel Yates, Bryson Ragland, Oaklynn Ragland, Shelby Smith, and Bryce McKinney, who brought immense joy to his later years. He leaves behind his brother, Tommy Goodwin of Alexander City, AL; his nephew, Jeremy Goodwin; his aunt, Helen McCleod; his nephew, Brandon Bryan; and his niece, Brandi Laine Cotney (Daniel) of New Site, as well as numerous other family members who will miss him dearly. Phillip was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Huel Goodwin; his mother, Robbie Jean Goodwin; his niece, Jamie Olivia Goodwin; his sister-in-law, Donna Goodwin; and his sister, Debra Jean Keel.Phillip's life was a beautiful patchwork of the moments he shared with the people he loved. He was the pillar of his family, a source of endless stories and laughter, and a man who approached every challenge with a mixture of intelligence and humor. His adventurous soul will be remembered fondly by all who had the honor of accompanying him on the journey of life. As we bid farewell to Phillip, we celebrate the indelible mark he left on our hearts. His memory will continue to inspire us to embrace life's adventures, cherish our loved ones, and find joy in the simple things. Phillip "Goober" Goodwin's legacy will live on through the laughter of his family, the stories they share, and the fish that swim a little easier now in the waters he loved so much.
